I'm not POSITIVE but I think I read somewhere on a fakie website that the way you can tell if they're vintage or modern (at least on the circus babies) are if their eyes are painted or glass. So it looks like the orange circus baby is vintage. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. They're so cute! Congrats! (pm'ed ya back)

If she has multi-colored hair, she is probably the modern release from Walgreens sets

*WHOOPS LONG POST* Thanks everyone!! But I'm pretty darn sure she is vintage, she looks just like my orange girl I got from Lykke! I tried Skimble's MLP Fakie Project page but I couldn't figure out if she is vintage or not! This is what's on Skimble's website: "the babies that came in the Circus Pony and Baby sets, as opposed to those sold singly in the Baby Pony packs and those which were manufactured after 1995, can be identified. Firstly, they will always have pink blanket trim. It can be paler or lighter like the two different babies in the photo, but it will always be pink. Secondly, the ponies that are simplified versions of matching mothers and are original releases (that is, pre-1995) will always have two-toned hair. Baby Pony pack babies and rereleases have either single-coloured or tri-coloured hair!" and: "(About vintage Baby Pony Packs) As far as I am aware, there are only two known packs. The first set featured a pink with blue hair Lady Baby, an orange with yellow hair Lady Baby, and a yellow with green hair Circus baby. The second set, meanwhile, featured a pink with green hair Lady Baby, a yellow/green with green hair Lady Baby, and a blue with pink hair Circus Baby. Baby Pony pack Circus babies can be identified from their Circus Pony and Baby set counterparts due to their single coloured hair (compare with this baby). They also always have the darker pink blanket trim, whereas the mother and baby Circus babies have been released as variants with pale pink blanket trim. Identifing the difference between these vintage babies is easy; the difficulty lies in identifying vintage Baby Pony pack or single Circus Babies with the many post-2000 rereleases that have single-coloured hair!" So from this I can figure out that she's not a vintage one that came with a mom because the blanket trim isn't pale pink and her hair isn't two toned, and she's not likely to have come in a Baby Pony pack either unless there were more packs than Skimble knows of. So if she's vintage she's most likely to be a single Circus Baby, right? There is no info on vintage single Circus Babies on the site though so I can't find out if she is one or not There isn't info on modern Circus Babies with single colored hair either, so even though there's such a lot of great info I'm still confused The MLP Fakie Project site also says "An in-depth post examining the differences of the many kinds of Circus Babies released over the last seventeen years will eventually come!" though, so there still is hope that the knowledgeable Skimble will clear up the mystery!

You are certainly doing your homework, sweetie! Kim will be proud to see her journal be used to id fakies! ^__^ It is an awsome journal, of course! However, since Kim wrote the posts, another circus set have been discovered. This one; I traded it with Lykke, a danish member (and a great friend might I add!), who told me she definately got the set as a child. Plus, the fact that the mother have painted eyes is a give-away, too. Since Lykkes set is from Denmark, and you won this from german ebay, I'd say these were released in Europe, quite possibly duing the early 90's where Lykke most likely got hers! The mother is in the mold that were used to produce "single" circus ponies released in AU, and not the mold with the slightly different blanket which were used to produce the mothers & baby sets released in AU, which is making everything even more complicated! Yesterday I found a yellow circus pony on ebay, also vintage, which have never been seen before either (at least not to my knowledge). There is still a LOT more fakies to be discovered, so don't be confused when you find one that is bending the rules (BTW, I can confirm that the vintage SHS set lady baby was released with thin eyeshadow in the mother/baby set, which means your set is most likely mom and baby ^_^ Especially if you bought them together!) Phew.. I hope this helps, otherwise the awsome Skimble aka the one and only Fakie Goddess will wake up and have weekend, so hopefully she'll clarify this for us ^_^; ETA; I forgot to add that I have only seen this color/texture hair on pre 2000 vintage fakies, which also might be a clue. Sure, the color has been used on Walgreens fakies, but the texture isn't nowhere near as rough as the vintage type.
