Yeah, so you'd think I'd end up with taking pictures of the city, right? Or huge tulip-fields, a couple of windmills and such? Nope. I did, however, shoot 500-something pictures in Amsterdam Zoo & aquarium! It was the best zoo experience in my LIFE! Here's a couple of my favorite pictures .. This bird was HUGE ~ This little fellah was wandering about in his cage. He is so adorable! I love the way his eyes were moving seperately. YAWN! The birds are used to people.. But I'm not used to be so close to them! Inside the butterfly-pavillion (the name escapes me right now) Gorilla playing with her baby - if it wasn't for a stupid kid I'd have had a great shot with the mothers head, LOL. The mother suddenly jumped right in front of the kid and slammed her fists into the glass, as a get-the-hell-away. Baby playing alone after the mother warned us; The aquarium was amazing!! I got to see some fish I thought I'd never see IRL. Not to mention this toe-looking thing; I love the pattern on this one; I have no idea what these are called in english, but in danish they're called Kuglefisk (ball-fish) Piranhas! There were so many <3 And now for the three most amazing creatures.. 1. Spotted Murray Eel; 2. Clown fish! and number 3.... A freaking dragon fish!! *faints* They had so many of them I was about to faint.. I've always wanted to see one. Back in the zoo, there were a few cages we'd still not seen. Like the sea otters (I think? I was so busy taking pictures I forgot to check the signs, LOL)! This baby was making my heart melt. Racoons; Again, I lack the name in english. Another nameless animal, lol. I know the danish name, it's just so embarrasing.. They also had a geological museum, which had another thing I've always wanted to see... Dinosaurs! I'm so happy to have been there. It was so amazingly wonderful to see a zoo with proper cages, plenty of not-the-average-zooish-animals-like-lions animals.. My best zoo experience to date. And the best part of my trip to Holland!

0_0 You went to Amsterdam?! Dude, you're my hero. We all know what's legal and easy to get in Amsterdam. Sweet zoo pics. Not only is the subject matter interesting (I adore zoos!) but those photos look so professional! Gorgeous shots, especially the fish ones. Fish are so hard to photograph. BTW, the third pic from the bottom is a sloth, and the one after that is some type of fox. Specifically a fennel, or fennet, or something like that. I think.

Wow, Vette, your photos are just amazing! *squeals at all the aquarium fish you can see in Australia, too* I just love the yawn, and the baby gorilla is just so adorable!
That toe-looking thing is bizzare! Is that a kind of coral or anenome or what...?
I hope you had a fantastic holiday - I'm sure you did, by looking at those pics!

Thanks, both of you! *blushes* I had so much fun taking pictures, I was lucky to see most of the animals while they were active! You know, Knotty, I totally wanted to get you something from Amsterdam, but I was afraid it would seem a little lame, lol, seeing as didn't even go to a coffee shop or smoke myself *blushes* I should be going next year too, though, hopefully, so if there's anything (legal, lol) I can grab for you, remember to tell me in advance I think the toe-looking thing is an anenome, Kim, but I'm not really sure - it was really big though, and looked so surreal! I did have a great holiday, besides getting the wrong bungalow at first, everything worked out, and the weather was nice, too *hugs you both* Nothing beats being home, though!

Beautiful pictures! The Fennec Fox is exceptionally adorable, and the otter... awww. I think it's a river otter. We have some at the local zoo here and they're so much fun to watch. ...What's the Danish name for otter? Just out of curiousity!
You're a great photographer. The aquarium pictures are gorgeous--if you ever find yourself in Nebraska in the USA, let me know and I'll take you to our giant aquarium.
*sneaks off with the otter*

Thanks! ;D Veda, the danish name for otter is odder, lol, with soft d's pronounced like "th" in "with" - kinda like other, except the danish language is a bit more brutal to the sound! I would love, love, LOVE to go to a giant aquarium. *dreams* I'll let you know for sure if I'm ever in Nebraska, I promise you that *hands you a couple of otters to play with the baby*

Maybe I could talk you into picking me up a little pipe? Pipes are totally legal, and I'd get plenty of use out of it. Any type of pipe would be awesome (I have a collection of glass, metal, stone, wood, and acrylic pipes), but bonus points if it says Amsterdam on it someplace. EDIT: I just checked the mail, and I got your postcard from Holland. ^_^ (Even though you're already back home, LOL!) It was so sweet of you to send it. <3 *hugs*

Oh my god, these are freaking awesome. Such awesome photos and such awesome animals.
The one you called a "dragon fish" is called a lionfish in the USA- or at least in the area I come from. It's actually legal to keep them as pets and I've seen them at out petstore... though they are like $50 a fish.
The raccoons made me realize something, and that's that a lot of animals considered common to me are amazing and new to others, and that there's certainly some that would be the same for me here in the USA. Raccoons are a common pest here (though I personally like them XD) and they'd certainly never be in a zoo! It makes me wonder what creatures we keep in the zoos here that people in Europe would think are silly to put on display.

Thanks, guys Knotty, I could def. find a small pipe for you - they had a bunch of pretty glass ones! Zainin, we even put our own regular animals on display, so unless you're displaying cows, sheep or regular pigs I don't know xD ..Omg, having a lion fish as a pet? *semi-faints* I should take a look at the rules here.. Amy, I'd try to send you the toucan! He was bloody cute.
