Oh my gosh! Last night I was I was watering our tarantulas, including my babies, Arcane and Arachne. Arcane is one of the most docile of our 5. She's a Chilean Rose Hair. She and Wooly, our other Chilean Rose Hair, are the only 2 I've ever held and the only 2 of our 5 that are safe to hold. Grindle is a Panama Red Rump and she's very aggressive and Kali is a Costa Rican Zebra and she's just plain bonkers. Sometimes she's ok and other times she's crazy. So you don't hold her either. Arachne though will eat you if given half a chance. She's not "aggressive" she sees you as dinner. She's a Solomon Island Bird Eater. She's going to get huge and is by far the most dangerous pet we own. I'd risk it to say she was even more dangerous than the Black Widows we had, because she'll hunt you down. Anyway, she and Arcane are my first 2 tarantulas ever and I love them both so much. Arcane is so sweet and calm. Arachne is the opposite. She will attack anything. She's probably my favorite though. She has a cute little face and so much spunk. *scratches head* I know I had a point somewhere..... Oh yeah!! Last night, I was giving all of our tarantulas water. Arachne always attacks her water. She full on mauls it as I'm pouring it in. Lately though, it has occured to her that the water comes from above so she runs up the side of her cage toward the door and the source of the water. My husband swears they are mostly instinctual and react only to stimuli. I'm pretty sure Arachne thinks and plots and remembers at this point. I don't care what he says. Last night though, she ran up the side of the cage wall when I started adding the water, looked at me and.....GROWLED!!! It never even occured to me these creatures made any noise! I swear to you though, she growled. It was an odd half hiss/half growl, but still. And it definately came from her. I was shocked and amazed. I love that crazy creature! She always surprizes me. One day, she'll kill me in my sleep, but I'll still adore her.

Where's the hooves-over-eyes-crying icon from the Arena when I need it? Spiders freak me out enough as it is, and they growl too...? LOL, that's terrifying. I'm glad you love them, though. Scary things need love too! <3

OMG, if a spider growled at me I'd be on the other side of the globe right about now! I admire your courage to handle and care for such scary (and dangerous) creatures, Kat!
I can't believe a spider ... growled... *faints*

Oh, goodness. I don't mind spiders, but keeping one that could maul me... eugh! You're a brave soul indeed, although it sounds like Arachne is worth the danger. Pets are awesome, regardless of what they are or what crazy shenanigans they get up to. I'm so glad someone else's pets make odd noises, too. I swear that I've heard my (insanely intelligent) cat speak English, so a growling spider sounds about right.

lol! That is kinda scary but kinda funny, I dont know what I would have done, either laughed so hard my sides started hurting or poo my pants & get outta there. Its great to see someone that loves taking care of such awesome creatures though. I know alot of people dont like them, but spiders are pretty amazing.
