The Cabbage Patch Magic Meadow Info thread
« Thread Started on Jun 11, 2009, 3:26am »

This is all the information I have at this point in time, I will update if I find more ;D

These ponies were released in the early 90’s for the cabbage patch line of toys. There is a fine line with these fakies, as they were also produced by Hasbro, the same producer of the My Little Pony line. They are still classed as fakies however; as they were not made for the same line of toys and have obvious differences.

These were most commonly called either cabbage patch ponies (for obvious reasons) or magic meadow ponies (this was what they were released as). Their fake counterparts (also known as ‘hippo’ fakies) also have very obvious differences from the originals.

The easiest way to find out if you have a fake is to have a look at the eyes. All original cabbage patch ponies have painted on eyes, the coloured part is always round with a different shade ‘sun’ shape around the pupil. They can be a range of different colours, but the most common is blue eyes.

They came with a comb similar to the 'pic' sold with some of the original my little ponies. They also came with their own glittery painted crowns. Here is a MOC picture (thanks Kanthaka) of one of the glittery ladies

Here is a fake (borrowed from Kanthaka) for comparison – you can see, these girls have glass eyes, I haven’t seen any full sized fake magic meadow ponies without glass eyes.

Another obvious difference is their feet, magic meadow ponies will always have a horseshoe with a cabbage in the middle f it on all 4 feet, and this is what it looks like

Magic meadow ponies all have a ‘taf’ sort of symbol or some form of ‘patchy’ symbol that goes all over their body. They don’t have a single symbol on their butt like MLP’s or their hippo fakie counterparts. The only variation to this rule is the glittery girls, these had no symbols at all, just a completely glittery body.

This shows you an example of how they have an ‘all over’ symbol.

And this is what the ‘glittery’ ones look like

There were 27 normal ponies released in their sets, as well as at least one set of ‘secret surprise’ twins, not much is known about them however, and there may be another set of these twins, we are unsure.

1st Release ‘Crimp n’ Curl’ Ponies –

These were a set of 6 ponies with hair that you could twist, style & ‘crimp’ with a little cabbage shaped crimper they came with. Their hair was waxed yarn so held shape well. They also had a bow sewn onto the top of their tail & top of mane. All were earth ponies in this first release.

2nd Release ‘Crimp n’ Curl’ Ponies –

These were also a set of 6 ponies, they came in different colours from the first release, the only big difference with this release was they now had glitter in their yarn hair and none were earth ponies, they were either Pegasus or unicorns. They also had a bow sewn into the top of their mane & tail.

Shimmer n’ Shine Ponies –

These releases of ponies were all earth ponies and came in a set of 5 (that I’m aware of). They had pearlised bodies & glitter in their hair. They all had a flower symbol down their sides, and they were scented to smell like whichever flower they displayed.

Glitz n’ Glamour Ponies –

This release of ponies had 2 unicorns & 4 earths for a total of 6. They all had glitter in their hair & completely glittery bodies. They had no symbols at all.

Lipstick Surprise ponies –

This was a set of 4 earth ponies, they all had a ‘TAF’ symbol down their sides and a bow sewn into their mane & tail like the crimp & curls. The reason they have this name is they came with a ‘lipstick’ with a felt tip, when wet with cold water & rubbed over their lips lipstick ‘magically appeared’ and with hot water it would disappear D:

Secret Surprise Twins –

As far as I am aware there was one set of these & they came with a ‘regular sized’ pony mother (apparently) not much is known about them. These girls were the same size as the magic meadow ponies, and had symbols that had a secret message when a cold wet sponge was wiped across their butterfly symbol. There may have been a 2nd set of these.

the Glitz n Glamor ones all came with a metallic painted Crown as well! I have all 6 with their crowns.

the Shimmer n Shines all came with a hair clip of the flower that is their symbol. I used to have 2 but sold them :(

The page you linked only lists the main hair color and not the tinsel colors for the Glitz n' Glamour Ponies. Since you seem to have all of them can you tell me what they are?

I used to have one when they first came out, I think it was one with the yarn type hair, but I can't seem to remember exactly which one it was. I just remember hating it because it was nothing like my G1 mlp (just as I hated poor G2 Sky Skimmer). Ponies were never be the same after G1.

*edit to add*
Oh Crap. Fingerpaints, you evil person you. I got to looking at the pics again and now I need some CPK Crimp N' Curls. >.<

I think the one I had may have been either Star or Springsong, one of the earth ones. I remember purple... Not sure. I was just so mad that she wasn't a G1 MLP.
